What is CrossFit?

At it’s simplest, CrossFit Wicklow is an exercise club.

It’s also a community in itself, based around a training program that builds strength and conditioning through varied, high-intensity, workouts. You do a different workout each day to help grow a different part of your functional strength or conditioning - you don’t specialise in one thing but instead try to build a body that’s capable of practically anything and everything.

It’s a philosophy too, that coaches people of all shapes and sizes as they improve their physical well-being and cardiovascular fitness in a challenging but encouraging environment.

It’s a sport, a different way to get fit for life. It gives you motivation and you can compete against yourself, other members, other gyms, your region, your country and Internationally at the CrossFit games.

And it’s a family. When you join CrossFit Wicklow you become part of a team and you’ll get to know all of your teammates very well at BBQs, parties and occasional camping trips.

CrossFit Wicklow is not like going to the gym because it’s different each time. You never get bored. You’ll use a short, intense Workout Of The Day (WOD) and strength training to maximise effect from a very short period of time. Your body fat will melt away, lean muscle will appear and you’ll be more mobile. After only a couple of months you’ll notice a drastic difference in your body and your life. In fact, every day living will be easier and, if you do other sports, you’ll feel the benefits there too.

Here’s the cool bit: CrossFit is used by lots of police academies and tactical operations teams, military special operations units, champion martial artists and hundreds of other elite and professional athletes worldwide.

Steps to becoming a CrossFitter

Step 1

Come in to CrossFit Wicklow for a free introduction and a chat with a coach. We’ll explain everything to you, demonstrate some of the movements and answer all of your questions.

Step 2

Complete six one-on-one sessions with a coach. Just the two of you. This is to give you confidence and to help you get to know then routines, vocabulary and equipment before you go into the regular classes.

Step 3

Choose the membership that suits you best.

What does CrossFit do?

CrossFit will get you fit, obviously. But it will also burn off fat, build muscle and increase mobility, flexibility and functional strength. It will lift your mood and motivation, help you to sleep deeply and to think clearly.

When you go to a CrossFit Wicklow class:

  • All of your programming will be done for you - you don't have to think “what will I do today?” - everything from warm up, strength, metabolic conditioning and cool down is pre-planned

  • You’ll never get bored of doing the same class over and over

  • You will be a part of a community with coaches and new friends, support, fun days and trips

  • You can tap into your competitive side and watch the healthy competition between yourself and friends help build the results you want

  • You’ll improve at other sports (golf, tennis, soccer, etc)
